The Probate Process: What Is It? Why Do We Need It?
For many people the word “probate” triggers fear or anxiety of what the process to come may be like. But that does not necessarily have to be your experience! The probate process largely depends on your specific situation, and of course, is helped by being prepared and educated about the estate administration process. In this session, Attorney Jeanne Di Minno will ease some of the apprehension associated with probate by walking you through how probate works in Connecticut. Additionally, she will explain who takes charge of a Will after someone dies, what happens if someone dies without a Will, how to avoid a lengthy probate process, and how tools such as a living trust can help avoid probate. And finally, you’ll learn about some of the potential pitfalls in the process and how careful planning can avoid them.
Attorney Jeanne Di Minno graduated from Pace University School of Law and received her BA from Western Connecticut State University. She has an extensive and varied background in law that includes real estate, family law, alternative dispute resolution, and working in a criminal court. These experiences, along with Jeanne's knowledge of other areas of law, give her a unique perspective and have helped her be able to literally explain anything to anyone!
